Google Details When Pixel and Nexus Devices Will Die

New charts uncovered by Droid Life detail when exactly Google will stop supporting some of their most recent Pixel and Nexus devices in terms of software updates. As a forewarning, 2017 is probably the worst year to buy any of these gadgets.

For the Pixel and Pixel XL, Google won’t guarantee another major Android update after October 2018. Security patches won’t be guaranteed come October 2019. As for Nexus devices, the 6P and 5X won’t be getting a version number upgrade after September of this year (no Android O for you!), while September of next year is their security patch deadline. All previous Nexus devices will get their final software updates before this October.

It’s always a shame to see Android phones die, but it’s the circle of life. Google has to follow their policy which states Pixel and Nexus owners will “get security patches for at least 3 years from when the device first became available on the Google Store, or at least 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device, whichever is longer.” I doubt most people knew this, so it’s nice to see this information laid out for the public to understand.
