Last year, ZTE announced the extremely impressive ZMax Pro. This smartphone was basically a budget smartphone killer as it packed mid-range specifications for just $99. Now, the company is following up in 2017 with a new option exclusive to Boost Mobile: the ZTE Max XL.
The Max XL, while backing away from a few opportunities, doesn’t really skimp out on much. It’s got a 6-inch 1080p display similar to that of the ZMax Pro alongside a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Inside, there’s a Snapdragon 435 processor opposed to the ZMax Pro’s Snapdragon 617, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage with a microSD card slot for expansion, and a hefty 3990mAh battery that should get you through a day. There’s a USB-C port on the bottom to charge the cell.
For software, ZTE opted for Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The company touts they’ve slimmed down their skin this time around, although it wasn’t exactly bad on the ZMax Pro. Nevertheless, it looks like near stock Android is their new approach with future handsets.
As for cameras, ZTE has included a 13MP rear sensor and a 5MP selfie shooter. There’s not much special here but expect decent pictures anyway if they’re anything like ones taken with the ZMax Pro.
All of this comes in a package that’s compatible with Sprint’s 4G LTE and HPUE networks. The Max XL is available today from Boost Mobile at just $129.99, therefore continuing ZTE’s trend of mid-range handsets at budget prices. Eventually, the device will reach Sprint and Virgin Mobile.
