Nvidia’s Shield TV Can Now Stream 4K Content from Google Play

Nvidia is currently rolling out a software update to their Shield TV set-top-box that enables 4K video playback on televisions. Yes, this feature has previously been available, but content from Google Play Movies & TV is now supported. This means that the Shield TV has major advantages over competitors since it can now play 4K content from YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Video, Google Photos, Vudu, Plex, Kodi, Vimeo, and now Google Play.

In addition, content cast to the Shield TV via Google Cast is now also streamable in 4K. And as a reminder, Nvidia will soon allow users to use the Google Assistant to watch 4K content from Google Photos on their Shield TVs which is another advantage this particular piece of hardware has.

The software update should be rolling out to all Shield TV owners now.
