There’s Still a Way to Remap Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Bixby Button to Whatever You Like

Samsung famously blocked users’ first attempt at remapping the Bixby button on the Galaxy S8 and S8+, but since it’s Android phones we’re dealing with, it was only a matter of time until someone came up with an alternate route around this blockage. Thankfully, developer Dave Bennett has come through with a new app called BixRemap that’s currently free in the Play Store.

By using BixRemap, you can reprogram the Bixby button to access whatever app you want. Unfortunately, it’s not the cleanest method to re-route this button as a) the button’ll still open Bixby before opening your assigned app, b) you have to deal with a persistent notification telling you the service is running, c) you need to grant the app permissions to track your usage, and d) the app is still in early stages so you’re not guaranteed to get the same results every time. Nevertheless, it’s at least nice to have something rather than nothing when it comes to creating a physical shortcut to something you’ll actually wanna use.

Cue Samsung developers trying to figure out a way to block this method, too.
