There’s another new hard drive. Yes, I know. “What’s so special about a hard drive? What’s it do, light up?” Whelp, this one doesn’t, but it can be pretty useful in a tight situation.
Think about this: you’re on a plane and are working on that business presentation when your laptop’s battery drains to 10%. “My god, the boss is gonna kill me” exclaims you. You didn’t bring your power adapter and all you have is the Western Digital G-Drive USB-C. What do you do?
Answer: you plug in your hard drive.
Yes, folks. The new G-Drive USB-C can charge your laptop’s battery by using a built-in 45W power bank. Your laptop has to be able to charge over USB-C, however, but most modern laptops have made this switch anyway (e.g. MacBook, HP Spectre, most Lenovos) so you probably won’t have a problem. There’s a USB-C port on the hard drive that can be used to transfer both power and data, while a USB-C to USB-A cable is also provided in case your laptop hasn’t switched to USB-C and you’re still using those rectangular USB ports to get stuff done.
