Apple’s Clips app for adding effects, filters, captions, animations, and more onto videos has launched today on iPhone and iPad. The news comes just over two weeks after we first learned about the company’s new Snapchat-like video application.
Clips tries to separate itself from other video editing solutions by implementing new and unique features. One key aspect of the app happens to be Live Titles which is one of Apple’s marquee features. It allows users to add animated captions and titles to their videos (or clips, if you prefer) using their voice. I’m not sure if this is better then simply typing in captions and titles, but hey, Apple loves hearing you shout “What a glorious day!” to your phone anyhow.
You can also add multiple videos to your clip in up to 1080p quality alongside various audio tracks, while your time limit can stretch all thew ay to 60 minutes. This indicates that Clips is a more user-friendly version of iMovie which can do some of the stuff Clips can but in a more formal video-editing way.
Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo are the current integrated social platforms to which you can upload your Clips, with likely more to come in the future.
Apple’s full description of Clips can be found below.

Apple’s goal with Clips isn’t to compete with the likes of Snapchat or even Facebook. Rather, it wants to be a fun video editing application for young audiences or those who just like drawing on top of their videos. It’ll make for a nice addition to your daily flow of Instagram clips and YouTube uploads, while in the future, more extensive editing options are bound to arrive sooner rather than later to really step your game up.
