Via a press release today, Apple announced the availability of AirPods, the company’s first in-house pair of wireless earbuds. The headphones cost $159 and connect via Bluetooth to various devices, specifically iOS devices which can take full advantage of the technology built into the buds.
Apple today announced AirPods are available to order online now from Apple.com and will start delivering to customers and arriving at Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Resellers and select carriers next week.
If you recall, a leaked email sent by CEO Tim Cook confirmed that AirPods would begin shipping over the “next few weeks,” however there was no telling as to exactly when we could expect the headphones to fall in the hands of the public.
The headphones have also been delayed before, resulting in a December launch. Back in September, Apple promised a fall launch, however in a surfaced TechCrunch report, Apple said the AirPods weren’t ready yet and they needed time to finalize them for production. For interested buyers, this surely struck a nerve. But for the rest of us, it simply meant we’ll have to wait.
According to Apple, AirPods will ship in “limited quantities at launch and customers are encouraged to check online for updates on availability and estimated delivery dates.” In a nutshell, this means there’s a limited quantity of AirPods available for purchase right now. Regarding store pickup, the company says stores “will receive regular AirPod shipments.” At launch, AirPods are available for purchase in 100 countries, including Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Japan, UAE, the UK and the US.
