Fresh reports out of SamMobile attempt to shed light on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 handset and what the phone may feature. But in this case, these reports depict what the phone may ship without…
Yeah, you know where I’m going with this. According to one report, Samsung has been “confirmed” to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack for their 2017 flagship. Immediately, your reaction will probably be, “NO!” Unfortunately, it’s really looking like this is the fate of the handset. But hey, at least fanboys can say Samsung copied Apple ‘again,’ right?
As an alternative to plug-and-play headphones aided by the headphone jack, it’s likely that Samsung will build a USB-C port into the Galaxy S8 which can double as the 138-year-old port using an adapter the company will hopefully include in the box. Otherwise, users will have to resort to wireless headphones over either Bluetooth or NFC, an accessory that can get pretty pricey and not ideal to buy after such a major purchase as a Samsung Galaxy S family member.
Nevertheless, it looks like the Galaxy S8 will meet the fate the iPhone 7, Moto Z, and HTC Bolt all faced this year alone. Of course, you can always not upgrade to the S8 if you really need a headphone jack (I mean, the S7 isn’t that bad, is it?), but for many looking for a new phone and choose this one, personal music listening and movie watching looks like will get harder in the new year.
In another report, SamMobile claims that Samsung will also ditch the home button for the Galaxy S8. There’s rumors that Apple may do the same thing eventually, but it looks like Sammy will bite the bullet first.
It’s unclear whether Samsung will use software navigation keys instead of capacitive sensors for the S8, but what is “known” is that the company is likely going to integrate a fingerprint sensor into the display itself, therefore eliminating the need for extra hardware. Of course, this could double as a home button, but we’re not sure if this is the case or not.
In addition, SamMobile also says the display of the S8 will still feature a 2560×1440 resolution. There were previous rumors suggesting that Samsung would make the jump to a 4K display for their next flagships, but as of now, this doesn’t seem like the case.
Will you hate Samsung for eliminating the headphone jack and home button on the Galaxy S8?
