Apple’s releasing a new app, and this one’s a doozy. It’s called Support, and it does exactly what you think it does: it gives you access to Apple’s live Genius support right from your iPhone or iPad. This is to make the process of getting help for your device quicker and easier. You’re also able to schedule in-house Genius Bar appointments and directly call a representative if your situation comes down to it.
Here’s Apple’s full description of Support according to the App Store.
Need help? Apple Support app is your personalized guide to the best options from Apple. Find answers with articles tailored to your products and questions. Call, chat or email with an expert right away, or schedule a callback when it’s convenient. Get a repair at an Apple Store or a nearby Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple Support is here to help.
And here’s some screenshots of the app using the ever-so-famous John Appleseed name.
As you can see, a Messages-type interface is present for chatting with a Genius, while you can get help via support articles found on Apple.com and schedule appointments for Apple Store visits. All in all, this app looks pretty handy if you constantly need assistance from Apple’s support team, and it certainly looks like a jab at Google’s integrated support system found in Android’s Settings panel which allows users to directly connect to a support representative for help with their device. Apple’s solution doesn’t currently look to be the obvious dominant here, but it’s a start. And likely a good one, too.
For now, it looks like Apple’s only letting those in the Netherlands use Support, however a broader roll out is expected at some point in the very near future. We’ll let you know when this time comes.
