R.I.P. Galaxy Note 7.
Tonight via a press release, Samsung has officially recalled the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone after hundreds of reports of the handset bursting into flames. At least 5 of these recorded incidents involved a supposed repaired unit the company’s been issuing to customers as complimentary exchanges. However, it now looks like no one is safe regardless whether you have a fixed model or proven faulty unit.
According to Samsung, they’re still investigating the erupted Note 7s and are further determining an exact cause of this serious flaw. As we already knew, the company’s working with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission in order to pin point the exact cause of the exploding Note 7. Until this is discovered, the Korean tech giant is prompting everyone to power down their Note 7 and return it to the place where they purchased it for a full refund. It’s worth noting that it’s no longer possible to get a second replacement Note 7, so don’t think you can still exchange your phone.
In addition to consumers powering them down, carriers and retailers worldwide have been prompted to discontinue resale of the Galaxy Note 7 alongside no longer offer replacement units for those who are seeking to exchange their device. Of course, as recent reports indicated, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Best Buy have all previously halted sales of the smartphone, so it looks like the US’ four major carriers alongside one of the biggest tech retailers in the States already knew what was coming from Samsung. Still, it’s nice to see confirmation from Samsung themselves.
To make returning your Note 7 look sweeter, Samsung is offering a $25 gift card, in-store credit, in-store accessory credit or bill credit via select carrier retail outlets. This will surely make those who have a Note 7 want to return the phone, so all in all, I think this is a great move by the company as it makes keeping yourself safe rewarding. And, I mean, who doesn’t like being rewarded for doing the right thing?

While it looks over now, Samsung still needs to successfully get possession of every Note 7 in the hands of consumers to complete this recall. Otherwise, the image they’ve been granted thanks to the phone bursting into flames time and time again will get even filthier and will forever stain the company as a whole.
