After over a four month wait and trailing over a month behind Duo, Google has finally released their highly anticipated messaging app called Allo. This app allows users to interact with others similarly to how third party messaging services like WhatsApp have been doing for years. Since the market for messaging apps is so huge, it looks like Google wants to take another swing at things and see what they can bring to the table.
Today, we’re releasing Google Allo, a new smart messaging app for Android and iOS that helps you say more and do more right in your chats. Google Allo can help you make plans, find information, and express yourself more easily in chat. And the more you use it, the more it improves over time.
Google Allo offers users a completely different experience when compared to something like Hangouts. More interactivity, helpful features to get work done, and entertaining elements are what Allo is based off of and will capitalize off of for the rest of it’s life span.
With texts, you can enlarge them or shrink them depending on whether you wanna sound loud or quite. With pictures, Ink is here to create doodling and sketching abilities so users can have some fun. Incognito mode and end-to-end encryption is present so messages stay private. Emojis, stickers, photos, videos and more can also all be sent. But by now, nothing here may be standing out to you. See, with Google Allo, Google Assistant makes it’s debut. This AI-powered bot-type software can help set reminders, alarms, find things on the web, play music, etc. Basically any task you gave Google Now, Assistant can do twenty times better. And I’m not even exaggerating, because it’s the truth. We saw Google demo Allo back at I/O 2016 and it was phenomenal since there was so much you could do with it thanks to the Assistant. Plus, real natural language and two-way conversations are possible between you and Assistant. And now that we have our hands on it, who knows what it’s capable of doing at this point?

To use Allo, you must have a phone number you can register with. An SMS will be sent to said number with a code for you to punch in. Once that’s completed, you’ll be asked to set up your profile with your name and picture. After that, you’ll be good to go. Your Google account is automatically added to Allo for your convenience as this is required for the Assistant to begin learning more about you and become smarter.
Google Allo is now available to iOS and Android users around the world via the App Store and Play Store respectively, while for those of you who like to side load their apps can download the APK of Allo from APK Mirror.
