Unfortunately, we’ve some pretty bad news for all you future iPhone 7 buyers who probably wanna pick up the device on day one. According to a press statement from Apple, all Jet Black models of the iPhone 7 are sold out, while each and every iPhone 7 Plus variant is gone as well. Matte Black, Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold standard iPhone 7s seem to be still available, however limited stock is present for each.
For all you waiting outside an Apple Store for a new iPhone 7, Apple says that limited quantities of the iPhone 7 will be available for pickup, however no Jet Black models or iPhone 7 Pluses will be up for purchase. So hopefully you haven’t been in a line for a few days waiting to get a Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus, because you’ll be greatly disappointed.
Here’s Apple’s full statement regarding this turn of events.
We couldn’t be happier with the initial response to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and we are looking forward to beginning sales through our retail stores and partners around the world.
Beginning Friday, limited quantities of iPhone 7 in silver, gold, rose gold, and black will be available for walk-in customers at Apple retail stores. During the online pre-order period, initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus in all finishes and iPhone 7 in jet black sold out and will not be available for walk-in customers. Availability at partner locations for all finishes may vary and we recommend checking directly with them.
Customers can continue to order all models in all colors on apple.com. We sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience as we work hard to get the new iPhone into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible.
So what exactly do we have to blame for the insignificant quantity of iPhone 7s? Preorderers, that’s who. See, when preorders of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus became available, people were grabbing iPhones like no ones business. In fact, I heard someone tried to get an iPhone at 12:01AM and they were already sold out. That’s how fast people were buying these things. And guess what? A majority of these preorders consisted of Jet Black iPhone 7s and 7 Pluses. Crazy, right?
So what do you do now? Well, you could always check out third-party retailers’ stores and online markets, but obviously there’s no promise you’ll get the iPhone you want. I suggest waiting a week or so before ordering your new iPhone 7 since that’ll give Apple some time to recuperate their in-stock availability. And if you’re in line right now in front of an Apple Store waiting for the iPhone 7 to launch, you may wanna pack it up and go home.
