If you recall, as a part of the iPhone 7‘s packaging contents, Apple will be including a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack dongle that’ll let you use standard headphones with a 3.5mm jack with Apple’s new handsets that doesn’t include such a port. However, it’s probably pretty easy to lose this adapter, so luckily it’s been discovered that Apple will be selling the dongle on their online store for just $9.
We also expect Apple to begin selling the accessory at their retail stores soon. However, at the moment Apple notes that this item is currently unavailable, leading to speculation that the dongle will launch alongside the iPhone 7 on September 16th. This seems like the most likely date, so let’s go with that for now…
The adapter will work with all iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches that have Lightning ports and can run iOS 10. This means that the iPhone 5 and up, the iPad 4, iPad mini 2, iPad Pro and up, and the iPod touch 5 and up will all be compatible. So at least you won’t be buying this thing just for one device.
Good move, Apple.
