In the latest update to the app, Facebook’s Messenger has gained a rather interesting feature that may put other messaging apps and even video calling apps like the recently launched Duo to shame. The company calls the feature Instant Video, and it works like this:
Essentially, if you tap the little video icon within a chat thread in Facebook Messenger, you can begin casting live video from either your front or rear camera without any audio (that can be turned on later) right within your current chat. The person you’re “video chatting” with won’t have to turn on his/her video feed, however, so really this feature is for something you wanna show someone live without calling them or taking and sending a video/picture. For me, I think the feature could be pretty useful, however I’m not sure if it’ll stop me from just taking a picture or quick video.
Nevertheless, it’s interesting to see a feature like Instant Video launch on such a large platform as Messenger since video calling seems to be the hot new trend nowadays. But like I said before, I’m still undecided on whether I’ll be using the feature regularly or not.
If you wanna take advantage of the latest Facebook Messenger feature, just update the appropriate version 87 via the App Store or Play Store, depending on whether you’re on iOS or Android.
