Today at IFA 2016, Acer announced their latest Chromebook that follows up on the success of the Chromebook R 11. Called the Chromebook R 13, this laptop features not-so-shocking specs with a relatively hefty price for a Chromebook nowadays.
For starters, the R 13 features a 13-inch 1920×1080 touchscreen which swivels 360 degrees. This means that you can flip your Chromebook into a) a standard laptop, b) display mode which prompts the screen up via the keyboard laying flat on a surface, c) tent mode, and d) pad mode. Inside, you’re getting a MediaTek M8173C Core Pilot quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 16, 32, or 64GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 12-hour battery. IO wise, there’s a USB-C port for charging and data transfer alongside a standard USB port, a microphone, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an HDMI port. Plus, you’re getting Chrome OS which can run Android applications on this machine.
All in all, this is a pretty capable laptop that’ll definitely get you through any tasks you need to complete. However, this does come at a cost.
Acer’s Chromebook R 13 will start at $399. Nowadays, you can get a pretty decent Chromebook for less than $300, so this almost $400 price tag is relatively steep. Nonetheless, it’s not that expensive. At least you’re not paying almost $1,000 for one (yes, I’m looking at you, Chromebook Pixel).
North America is where you’ll be able to pick up the Chromebook R 13, while October will be the time when you can buy it. Other EMEA markets will also see the laptop launch, with this particular price starting around EUR 399.
