Storage is always an issue for users of mobile devices, especially when those users have little storage to use. Take the 16GB iPhone for example. With people taking photos more often, downloading more apps that tend to weigh a lot in size, and require extra storage for downloaded music and movies, the need for more space inside a phone is created and becomes a major concern for most. But thanks to cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud, we can back up multiple types of media and still have access to it even though the content isn’t physically loaded on our devices.
However, cloud service’s aren’t without compromise at least for a chunk of the time. See, you normally don’t get much space when you subscribe to a free cloud service option. The most space I’ve seen you can get for free is MEGA’s offering which gives users 50GB of free internet-based storage to store music, movies, documents, and more. However, this may still not be enough for some users. Hence, you can subscribe to paid cloud services for a small fee each month to gain access to more storage for all your content. And the latest update to Apple’s iCloud service falls directly in line with this feature.
To provide customers with more storage, Apple has added a pretty massive 2TB iCloud subscription option which will run you $19.99 per month. By no means is this crazy expensive, especially when you consider the amount of cloud space you get. This arrives alongside the other three iCloud subscriptions which gives you either 50GB, 200GB, or 1TB of cloud storage for $0.99, $2.99, or $9.99 per month, respectively.
The updated pricing of iCloud’s various paid storage tiers can be seen below.
Since iCloud is meant for users who have little storage left on their devices, it’s rather ironic for Apple to launch this new storage tier now just over a week before the iPhone 7 is unveiled. I say ironic because the 2016 smartphone from Cupertino is supposed to include upgraded storage options so you don’t run out of space. For instance, 32GB is rumored to be the baseline option, while 256GB of space may be making its way to the iPhone 7 Plus/Pro. Of course, you can never have too much storage, so why not grab that 256GB iPhone and subscribe to the 2TB iCloud storage for $19.99?
We’ll be covering everything Apple talks about at their September 7th event, by the way, so stay tuned!
