Via a press release today, Barnes & Noble decided to announce their latest edition to their NOOK family as a part of their partnership with Samsung. The tablet/e-reader, called the Galaxy Tab A NOOK, is essentially a smaller, slimmed down version of the Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK which features a slightly smaller screen and cheaper price.
For starters, you’re getting a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280×800 to browse content and read your books on, a 5MP rear camera for taking pics and a 2MP for selfies or video calling with something like Google Duo, up to 11 hours of battery life with the built-in cell, 8GB of memory with microSD card compatibility up to an extra 200GB, an FM radio tuner, and Android 5.1 Lollipop which may or may not get upgraded to Marshmallow. You also get all of Barnes & Noble’s extras like the NOOK reading app and the Barnes & Noble Store to make the tablet more of a NOOK. In addition, B&N Readouts are also present which will give users short and free stories based on their interests every single day, while NOOK Audiobooks (obviously an audiobooks apps) will be delivered to users of the tablet via a software update scheduled for rollout in September.
For $139.99, everyday customers can pick up the Galaxy Tab A NOOK, while B&N customers (likely who have a membership there) will receive a free case. And if you happen to currently be using a NOOK, you can grab the tablet for just $99.99, a $40 discount. All in all, this tablet’s a great value for the cost especially when considering that it doubles as an e-reader. Of course, you can say that about pretty much any tablet on the market, however this one’s intended to serve that purpose and it will no doubt disappoint (at least in my opinion).
