It looks like Google has decided to start testing out a new Podcasts interface inside the Google Play Music app and has begun to push it out to some users. And the folks over at Android Police have had users send in screenshots of the new feature in the app to report with. So we got our hands on the new pics of the Podcasts section in Google Play Music, and here’s what you need to know about the new service.
First off, the UI is very similar to the rest of Play Music. In the interface, you’ll find your podcast subscriptions arranged in Material design cards just like your music in the “Podcasts” section which can be accessed by going to the sidebar menu on the left and tapping “Podcasts” which is just above “Browse Stations”. And as expected, the same colors you’ll find throughout the app (orange and white) are found in the Podcasts interface as well.
Once your in the “Podcasts” section of the app, you’ll find your Material designed podcasts arranged in the “Featured” section, which doubles as the default “home” page of the area. From there, you can tap and listen to one of your podcasts, or you can browse for different and new ones along with search for any you might have that you just can’t seem to find. This is also where you can subscribe to channels and check out individual podcasts from different providers.
Oh yeah, and in case you’re a real podcast junky, you can set a channel to auto-download the 5 latest shows they’ve produced right to your device. Nice.
The new Podcasts feature in Play Music is gonna be a big hit since it’s really hard to find a decent podcasts app in the Play Store nowadays if you don’t wanna pay like $3 for one. Unfortunately, it’s unknown at this time of when this interface will roll out to all users, but we expect Google to launch it soon since more and more users are seeing it.
If you wanna have a bigger chance of seeing this new feature on your device, make sure you have the latest version of Play Music, which can be downloaded from the Play Store. That way, Google might notice you’re up-to-date and they’ll direct the server towards you.
