iPhone 7 Plus to Feature 256GB of Storage, Bigger Battery Says Report
A new set of rumors about Apple’s upcoming 2016 flagship handset the iPhone 7 have made their way to the internet via a new report by Chinese media site MyDrivers. In the report, the source claims that the new iPhone 7 Plus (not the regular iPhone 7 with a 4.7 inch screen, but the one with a 5.5 inch screen) will feature a 256GB storage configuration. They also state that the phone will come with a 3100mAh battery, which is bigger than both the iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus’ batteries.
It’s important to remember that the iPhone 6s Plus’ battery is smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus’ battery, with both featuring 2750 mAh and 2915 mAh batteries respectively. That’s an increase of about 10% over the 2750 mAh battery in the iPhone 6s. However more mAh doesn’t necessarily mean better battery life (as the power draw of hardware components also needs to be taken account), it is a good indicator as chips and circuit boards tend to get more efficient over time, not less.
But to touch on the storage capacity rumor… do we really need an iPhone with 256GB of space? I mean, I love lots of storage in my phone, don’t get me wrong, but isn’t 128GB enough? I haven’t met a soul who told me they just ran out of space on their 128GB iPhone 6s Plus. I understand people need to store important files (and lots of them) on their iPhone for convenience and security, but seriously. C’mon, people… seriously.
But with that aside, I would in fact like to see this capacity come into play. If this rumor makes it to the keynote in Fall (as a warning most rumors this early on don’t), it’ll be interesting to see how Apple implements it. Everyone knows how Apple likes to stick to their 16GB option, but c’mon, we’re over that. What I’d like to see is 64/128/256GB storage options rather 32/64/256GB and solely replacing the 128GB configuration, because some people don’t need that much storage. But if Apple does make 64GB the base option, we’re gonna jump out of our seats. Literally. I mean, I wouldn’t mind 32GB as the base option at all, since that’s what we really want anyway since we can shoot huge 4K video files with our iPhone 6ses now. However, I am open to a nice surprise from the Big A.
But listen, these are just really early rumors. You’re better off taking this with a grain of salt rather taking it to heart, cause there’s a pretty good chance you’ll be disappointed in September.
