[Watch] First Trailer for Sony’s Animated Spider-Man Film Debuts

Sony’s animated Spider-Man film has received a trailer. The 1-minute 22-second clip debuted during Brazil Comic Con 2017 and gives us our first look at how the studio will portray Miles Morales as the web-slinger.

The story behind the film isn’t entirely known, but it will be centered around Morales who was bitten by a radioactive spider and given the same powers Peter Parker received before he was killed by the Green Goblin. In the trailer, you see Morales swing through New York City, run out of breath at the top of a building, and even visit the snow-covered grounds of the grave site where Parker was laid to rest. Here’s a picture of his gravestone in case you somehow miss it while watching the clip.

Additionally, we have a name for the film: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This alongside the tagline “more than one will wear the mask” gives us indication that this movie will introduce more than one variation of Spidey throughout its runtime. We even get a glimpse at Morales speaking with another Spider-Man near the end of the trailer. Who this character is remains to be known, but we’ll let you know if we hear anything.

It’s worth mentioning this movie franchise will be completely separate from Sony’s other project, Venom, and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whereas Marvel will stick with Peter Parker for a while, it looks like Sony wants to explore the rest of the Spider-Verse and mix things up, kicking off with an animated Spider-Man and a spin-off of one of the most iconic villains to ever battle the web-slinger.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse arrives at theaters on December 21st, 2018. Venom, starring Tom Hardy as the title character, will reach audiences October 5th, 2018.
